The Dali Museum ~ Visions of Dali's Spain
/Clyde at The Dali Museum
Upon returning to Florida, Clyde began preparing for the exhibit at The Dali Museum, which was scheduled for June 15 – November 25, 2018. For more information about The Dali Museum, CLICK HERE.
Clyde immediately went through his photographs and printed a selection of images for the museum curators to look at to decide which images they wanted in the exhibition. When the museum decided upon the images they wanted, Clyde began printing the images and putting together his book: Clyde Butcher – Visions of Dali's Spain.
Clyde had just begun the printing when he had a stroke. It affected his right side, but fortunately, his mind is as alert as it was before the stroke. He was in the hospital and physical therapy for five weeks and, after leaving the hospital, continued physical therapy for another two months. He spent his summer learning to adjust to a different kind of life.
Fortunately, we have both our son-in-law, Neal Obendorf, and our employee, Paul Tilton, who understands the printing process, so they continued to print. They would bring the images to the house where Clyde would critique them.
After the images were printed, they were mounted, matted, and framed in sizes ranging from 5x8 feet to 26x30".

The final layout and writing for the book came together, then was sent to the printer. Clyde Butcher - Visions of Dali's Spain has an introduction by Hank Hine, Director of The Dali Museum and words by Peter Tush, Curator of Exhibits and Education at The Dali Museum, as well as words from Clyde. The book has 43 black and white images from our trip to the area of Spain where Dali lived and created his art. And, to give the book the depth of Dali, it also includes small images of Dali's paintings in black and white, with explanations about the paintings, alongside the black and white images of Clyde's photographs.

We were invited to see the exhibit as soon as the museum hung the photographs. The museum and its staff did an excellent job. We were thrilled to see the modern look they took exhibiting Clyde's work.

Thanks go to all the folks at The Dali Museum for working hard to make this exhibit a wonderful display of Clyde’s photography, as well as relating the photographs to the environment in Dali’s paintings that are hanging in the museum. We received so many compliments, as well as people saying that seeing Dali’s home environment helped them to better understand the imagery in Dali’s paintings. It made Clyde, Jackie, and I feel good that we helped to bring a deeper understanding of Dali and his work.
